Carlos Alberto Lopes Barbosa (Kaká Barbosa)

Kaká Barboza – he was born on the island of S. Vicente, but lived all his childhood and youth in Santa Catarina – Vila de Assomada – a region in the heart of Santiago that influenced and marked his artistic personality. He is a musician, interpreter and composer of remarkable themes, many of them recorded on radios and records. He participated with themes and as an interpreter in the album Trás di Son and is preparing to record a collection of his themes soon.

He is a poet, musician and short story writer. He has five published works, three of which are written in Cape Verdean [Vinti Xintido Letrado na Kriolu, Son di ViraSon and Konfison na Finata - poetry] and two in Portuguese [Chão Terra Maiamo - poesia and Cântico às Tradições - contos], he has two collections of poetry - Terra Dilecta and Gaveta Branca - written in Portuguese and is preparing the book of his compositions - Letras, Sons & Concertos -.

He collaborates and has several opinion articles scattered in national magazines and newspapers and electronic newspapers.

He was a founding member of the Pro-Culture Movement; a founding member of the Association of Cape Verdean Writers; he participated in the formation of various social and cultural organizations in the country, namely the Simentera Group. He was awarded the Diploma - Recognition by the Government of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations - USA for his contribution to Cape Verdean culture. He was awarded the Medal of Merit on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of National Independence by His Excellency the Prime Minister of Cape Verde - Dr. José Maria Neves and the 1st Class of the Volcano Medal by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Cape Verde - Commander Pedro Verona Rodrigues Pires.

He is a founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Cape Verdean Authors. He was Member of the Nation of the VI Legislature and VII Legislature. He is self-taught.
