Adriano Gonçalves better known as Bana was born in São Vicente on March 5, 1932 and died in Lisbon on July 13, 2013. He was an interpreter, singer and baladeiro Cabo Verdiano.

Bana began his career when Cape Verde was a Portuguese territory, while working as a bodyguard and errand boy for the composer and interpreter B. Leza.

Over a career of more than 60 years, Bana has published more than fifty LPs and EPs, in group or solo, and has participated in four films - two French, one German and one Portuguese/Cape Verdean.

"Ambassador" of Cape Verdean music, for being a pioneer in taking it to the four corners of Europe and Africa, Bana was recognized with various decorations and tributes, both in Cape Verde and abroad.
