Betú began to have his themes recorded in the early 1980s, and through the successive recordings of different performers, affirmed himself as one of the main composers of his generation. In the voice of Ildo Lobo who revealed it in the times of "Os Tubarões". Until the death of this singer, Betú had the main vehicle and dissemination of his work, since in his solo repertoire, Ildo always preferred his compositions - half of the themes of the album Intellectual are of his authorship.
Betú is the author of the melody (with lyrics by Amílcar Spencer Lopes) of the National Anthem of Cape Verde, which in 1996 replaced the PAIGC anthem, until then used as national anthem.
