Manuel Figueira is a Cape Verdean artist born in 1938 in the city of Mindelo. In 1962 he came to study in Portugal, in Belas-Artes, Lisbon. After completing the course, he returned to Mindelo.

In his work several periods are considered. This corresponds to his stay in Lisbon where he lived with artists such as Gil Teixeira Lopes and Eduardo Nery, along with Luísa Queirós, with whom he married. Later, he dedicated himself mainly to gouache painting, and became part of the modern-post-modern scene resulting from his association with artists from Neorealism, Surrealism, Abstractionism and Pop.
