Jorge Emanuel da Cruz Soares, better known as Djoy Soares, was born in 1967 in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde. He began his career in ceramics as a teenager, at the age of 13, at Atelier Mar, as an apprentice of master Leão Lopes. Since then, he perfected his technique with Chinese, Brazilian and Portuguese masters and opened his own Atelier in Ribeira Bote.
Acquired maturity and recognition in his professional practice, he was instructor of trainings in S.Vicente in the own Atelier Mar, in M_EIA, in the Red Cross and in Santiago, in the Center of Arts and Crafts of Trás di Munti. He is a member of the Mindelo craftsmen's association and participates regularly in CNAD's activities.
