Emilio Rito de Sousa Lobo (Mirri Lobo)

Son of Emílio de Sousa Lobo, and his wife Cacilda Brito de Sousa Lobo, Mirri Lobo was born in Pedra de Lume, Ilha do Sal, on 22 May 1960.

An interpreter and composer, Mirri Lobo revealed his talent for music from an early age, but only at the age of 19, at the end of 1979, when he was doing his compulsory military service in the city of Praia, Republic of Cape Verde.

After completing his military service in 1981 and returning to his native island, Mirri Lobo joined the local musical band "Clave de Sal" in the company of great musicians and composers, namely Antero Simas and Chiquinho Évora.

In 1982 he took part in the competition "TODO O MUNDO MUNDO CANTA", having qualified first at local level and second at national level, a fact that gave the artist a greater notoriety.

Mirri Lobo always regarded music as a Hobby until in 1987 he decided to record his first album entitled "ALMA VIOLÃO", produced by Dany Silva.

With a diversified repertoire of songs by current composers and some classics the album "ALMA VIOLÃO" would have great success, with special emphasis on the interpretation of the warm "BELA", which at the time reached all the tops on radios in the country.

Also in 1987 and following the success of the first album Mirri Lobo was invited to participate in the festival of folk music, Circum-Music, presented by RTP Madeira.

Between 1988 and 2009 he recorded three more solo albums and participated in two joint albums.

In 2010, after an interregnum of 12 years without recording solo, he releases the most recent album "Caldera Preta", with thirteen unpublished songs that mark the triumphal return of Mirri Lobo.

The track "Incmenda d'Terra" from the album "Caldera Preta" has reached the tops in all media and is considered the greatest musical success of the last decade.

In 2012 and following the success of the album Caldera Preta, Mirri Lobo is nominated for 5 categories in CVMA 2012, having won in four of the categories, namely Best Male Voice, Best Acoustic Album, Best Coladeira, and Best Music of the Year.
