Orlando Monteiro Barreto was born in São Lourenço dos Órgãos on November 1, 1967, better known as Orlando Pantera. He was a Cape Verdean musician, singer and composer.

Three of his songs were recorded on the album "Porton d'nôs Ilha" of the group "Os Tubarões. In the early 1990's he was part of several musical groups such as the Pentagon, Quinteto Capeverdeans Jazz Band e Arkor. He was the author of a series of compositions that earned him the nomination as Composer of the Year in 1993.

With João Lucas he was the author of the soundtrack for the show "Dan Dau" by Clara Andermatt's Portuguese company, with whom he also collaborated in 1998 in "Uma História da Dúvida". He also wrote music for some of the works of the Cape Verdean dance company Raiz di Polon.

In 2000 he won the "Revelation" Award at the Festival Sete Sóis Sete Luas, on the island of Santo Antão. He died at the age of 33, on March 1, 2001, victim of an acute pancreatitis. He was preparing to record his first CD "Lapidu na bô".

Vadú, T Checa, Princezito, and Mayra Andrade are some of the artists who are part of the "Pantera generation". "Tunuka" (written for Ildo Lobo), "Lapidu na bô", "Na Ri Na", "Dispidida", Vasulina" and "Regasu (Seiva)" are some of her best known songs that were recovered by names like Lura, Mayra Andrade, Voginha and Leonel Almeida.
