José Carlos Miranda Brito

José Carlos Miranda Brito was born in Angola, where he lived until he was 7 years old, having returned to Cape Verde, fleeing the war, with his parents and four brothers, for some years after settling in Portugal.

Miranda Brito, a young painter, assumes himself as a self-taught artist and accepts that his work is influenced by African artists such as Malangatana and Dília Fraguito.

According to the author, his passion for painting has been evident since he was a child, and he recalls the day his father ordered him to paint some gourds as the beginning of his career.

"I paint what I feel and how I feel", said the painter, explaining that what he likes most to paint is everyday life, something that transmits messages to people and feelings for Cape Verde".

The painter has participated in several collective exhibitions, but it's the individual exhibitions that he considers the most striking in his career. Setúbal, Almada, Lisbon, Sesimbra and Faro are cities that already know his work.
