Gérard Mendes (Boy Gé Mendes)

Despite being in music from an early age, it was in the 1990s that the image of Boy Gé Mendes was consolidated as a musician, composer and singer with a consistent solo career. Contemporary and cosmopolitan, "his" Cape Verdean music is very personal, whether by the fusion of various influences and a swing without borders, or by the intimate tone in which the French-speaking accent lends a special charm to Creole singing.

He was born in Senegal, lived in Franca in the 1970s and has lived in Mindelo since 1990.

He was part of the Cabo Verde Show group. He left the group in 1982 to take up a solo career.

Together with his brother Jean-Claude Mendes, he formed the group Mendes & Mendes.

Discography: Grito di bo Fidje, Donna Kingela, Sururu, Di oro, Lagoa, Noite de Morabeza. Best of Boy Gé Mendes.
