Francisco Vicente Gomes was born in S. Antão on July 3rd, 1927.

In his childhood in S. Vicente, where he came to live with his family, he soon became part of small groups, having lived with almost all the musicians of S. Vicente.

They named him Frank Cavaquim for being an excellent player of this instrument.

He was known for the beautiful coladeras, because he had facilities and time to observe the day-to-day life of the mindelense, the adventures of love, his "riolas" and his rivalries.

In the 60's he emigrated to Holland having participated in several Cape Verdean ensembles with emphasis on the Voz de Cabo Verde ensemble.

He was a humble and discreet figure, with rare sensitivity revealed in the few mornas he produced. However, of a sharp and perceptive irony, making him one of the most sarcastic lyricists and composers of coladera.

He died in Mindelo on May 5, 1993, and everyone who met him missed him a lot.
